Masjid Al-Islam – Dallas, TX (MAI) is recognized as the first Mosque in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Our Muslim community has been in Dallas, Texas for over sixty(60) years. We are part of the legacy and association that includes Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X and the leadership of the late Imam W.D. Mohammed. Masjid Al-Islam has played a pivotal role in pioneering the efforts of interfaith relations in Dallas.
The Mission of Masjid Al-Islam is to serve as an instrument to promote human excellence, integrity and guiding principles through the teachings of orthodox Islam found in the Quran and the life example of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)
We are known for our history of implementing social welfare programs in South Dallas. The Islamic Charity Day, which later evolved into The Day of Dignity, is one of our most acclaimed achievements. It is a huge collaborative effort where faith based and community organizations alongside health and social welfare agencies help distribute hygiene kits, clothing, food, educational and job training opportunities to the disenfranchised. The annual event, on average, serves well over 1500 men, women and children from all walks of life.
Further accomplishments include the Beacon of Light Community Center. The Center’s land was purchased approximately four years ago and renovated in the year 2015. The building features religious studies, educational and behavioral life skills programs that benefit its members, the citizens of south Dallas, low income families and individuals. On average, weekly, the Beacon of light serves approximately 350 under served individuals comprised of unskilled laborers, homeless and low income families. The community
center offers free computer training classes and job readiness skills at no cost. The goal is to help its citizens become self-reliant. The success of this program is due to volunteers that support our mission.
Masjid Al-Islam offers the five daily prayers (salat), unity among those of good will and the hope for a promising future free from poverty and oppression of all people.
